A LIVING LETTER
” You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by every body. You show that you are a letter from Christ…written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God..” I Corinthians 3:2-3
I have lived in letters.
Thirty years of writing letters as a Navy wife is a lot of mail.
I loved re reading a letter, imagining Roy writing it, his expression, the large hands he has,his attitude, the timing of it — was it at night or in the day?– The words he would use, intimate, sweet, longing words which were a bridge to our relationship
We learned a lot about each other through letters, our likes, dislkes– our temperments.
Words became gifts.
They were affirmations, instructions.
They still are.
I could hear his voice in his letters.
He was speaking to me personally.
We had time to write out our feelings and dreams, to explore the future
To Trust God with it..
It was His.
It still is.
So through letters we grew in our love for each other and we grew closer to God’s Love.
His letter to us , the Bible is a Love letter.
There is instruction, confrontation, consequence, defeat and victory– a
training plan for Living for His own.
It worked then.
It still does.
But I find it amazing that you and I are the letter that someone will read about God.
We are because God’s Word tells us we are.
So what did your neighbors learn about you this week?
Were you kind ?
Did your children hear the tone of gentleness in your voice when they needed correcting?
Did your husband receive encouragement from you or criticism?
The Word of God is a letter Written in Red, birthed through the life of Jesus, poured out on the Cross, Red with His shed Blood, read by you and me.
Are we an open Letter of His life–Living and Loving?
We should be.
Letters are remembered.
Write Yours in the flow of a transparent life that keeps up to date with God, cleansed from sin, filled with His Spirit and ready.
A Living Letter lives on in someone’s heart.
Someone is reading our lives.
What will they read?
