A Christmas Reflection 2008
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for HE has been mindful of the humble state of his servant…. His mercy extends to those who fear HIM from generation to generation.
HE has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant... Luke 1:46, 47a50,51,53,54a
Mary the mother of Jesus had much to think about– to ponder.
The unexpected had come upon her, a supernatural happening.
The angel Gabriel was the messenger of incredible tidings.
She was a betrothed virgin but in an instant she was told that she would conceive a child through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Gabriel announced that she had been chosen to bring forth” the holy one who would be called the son of God.” ( Luke 1:35b).
His name would be Jesus.
She was incredulous.
She was overcome.
Then she was in awe.
Questions came followed by answers.
This humble devoted teenager chose to receive the impossible by proclaiming, “ For nothing is impossible with God. I am the Lord’s servant…May it be to me as you have said.” Luke 1:37-38
She surrendered to God’s plans for her.
Then a timely visit came with Elizabeth, a relative well advanced in years who was also miraculously pregnant.
Oh the wonder of God!
Mary had time to think and thank God –to pause and ponder upon “His Mighty arm” and she began to praise HIM for HIS favor and goodness to her.
Indeed HE had “helped his servant”and HE will help us.
As we look at our world filled with calamities of every kind–we see stock markets plummeting, economic fear rising , joblessness and wars amassing, rampant crime and homelessness evolving, natural disasters erupting, illness and family estrangements developing.
Loss comes and we cry out to God for help!
When we do, HE comes.
HE is RESCUE, COMFORT, REFUGE.
JESUS came for you and me.
His beloved birth was followed by a brutal death on the CROSS.
Sin breaks us.
We need a Savior who can forgive us, clean us up and give us purpose and belonging.
How then do we get to HOPE from our brokenness?
We humble ourselves.
We present our lives.
We open the door of our hearts to HIM.
We invite HIM to come in and live there forever.
We thank HIM for our relationship.
We praise Him for His ways.
We thank HIM for Provision.
We wait in belief for the impossible.
HE IS BEAUTY and JOY.
HE COMES!
Will you pause and ponder upon HIM this Holy Season?
Will you remember all HE has done for you?
Will you delight in HIM and be made ready to receive the gift HE has planned for you?
if you do, HIS Mercy and Goodness will surprise you with the Miraculous.
Mary did.
So can we.
Christmas Blessings to you,
HE REIGNS,
Billie
